By ROBERT Siu KE, ROBERTO BENITEZ, WARREN C. EVELAND, JOSEPH H. AKEROYD AND CHARLES J. DUNNE C HEMICAL LINKAGE of fluorescent dyes with antibody allows histologic detection of antigen-antibody reactions. This technic, originally developed by Coons, has been extensively employed to localize the antigens of and antibodies to such diverse substances as bacterial products, viruses, blood group substances, hormones and many proteins of normal or abnormal nature.’ Platelet antibodies occur in humans and are readily prepared in animals; thus, through fluorescent antibody technic, an immunohistologic approach to platelet antibody-antigen systems, as well as to their in vivo sequestration sites seemed possible. Humphrey2 and Craig and Gitlin have carried out investigations in this field. The purpose of this report is to present our observations on the immunocytologic characteristics of platelets employing the Coons technic. Similar studies have been carried out independently at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and are being reported elsewhere in this issue.4

Potatoes: Source of Laboratory Reagent for Human Platelets Research
Irish potatoes is rich in carbohydrate, with varied glucose levels. It is also a very good source of apyrase, an enzyme used for platelet storage. The aim of this study was to explore Irish potatoes as an easily available source for apyrase extraction and purification. Apyrase was extracted from 5 Kg of Irish potatoes. Platelets were derived from 5-10 ml of human whole blood and G6PD activity w...
متن کاملA Model to Study the Phenotypic Changes of Insect Cell Transfection by Copepod Super Green Fluorescent Protein (cop-GFP) in Baculovirus Expression System
Background: Baculovirus expression system is one of the most attractive and powerful eukaryotic expression systems for the production of recombinant proteins. The presence of a biomarker is required to monitor transfection efficiency or protein expression levels in insect cells. Methods: The aim of this study was to construct a baculovirus expression vector encoding a copepod super green fluore...
متن کاملThe source of HLA molecules on platelets: Does platelets adsorb soluble HLA molecules from their environment?
Background: The origin and function of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I molecules on platelets are still highly arguable. Given the differences in the results of the previous studies in this regard, the lack of research in recent years, and the clinical importance of HLA class I molecules, the absorption capacity of platelets for soluble HLA class I molecules was studied in this investigat...
متن کاملPseudomonas fluorescent and its ability to promote root formation of olive microshoots
Root formation and root architecture of olive microshoots, inoculated or not with Pseudomonas fluorescent P19 or P21, were evaluated by measuring of length and the numbers of adventitious and lateral roots. Three-four nodal in vitro shoots were treated with different population densities (0, 105, 108 CFUml-1) of rhizobacteria. The density of 108 CFUmgl-1 induced almost two times increase in num...
متن کاملInduction of apoptosis in human tumor cell lines by platelets
Introduction: It has been reported that platelets can eradicate tumor cells in vitro, although the mechanism of this effect has not been determined. The effect of platelets on the induction of apoptosis in tumor cells is largely unknown. Materials and methods: To investigate this effect, two human hematologic cell lines, K562 and Daudi, were independently faced with unstimulated and thromb...
